At JF Contractors, we were tasked with the renovation of the University of South Carolina’s chemistry labs, fulfilling the vision set by Professor Emeritus Scott Goode. Our comprehensive demolition of the pre-existing science lab laid the groundwork for a transformative project.

We replaced ceilings, walls, and lab tables, installing sinks and hood vents to meet the specialized needs of chemistry students. By carefully executing these tasks, we ensured a safe, modernized environment conducive to enhanced learning experiences. The newly renovated building now boasts state-of-the-art chemistry labs that exceed expectations, offering students a vibrant space equipped with cutting-edge technology.

Our commitment to safety is evident in the incorporation of extensive safety features, including an abundance of fume hoods and fireproof doors, ensuring students can conduct experiments with confidence and peace of mind.

Through rigorous planning and execution, our team transformed the former law school building into a beacon of innovation and learning. The renovated labs provide students with the best 21st-century lab experience available, fostering a conducive environment for academic success. As a testament to our dedication to excellence, the new chemistry instructional labs stand as a showcase of our commitment to providing unparalleled educational facilities.

“We’ve built in unbelievable safety features in our labs that allow us to do experiments that we couldn’t do in our other building,” Goode says. “In this $50 million building renovation, half the cost is hidden. It’s in the complex ductwork above the ceiling that we need to make the labs safe for our students.”
